The college houses the Department of Food Science and Technology, Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Department of Hotel Management and Tourism, and Department of Home Science.

The College of Applied Food Sciences and Tourism (CAFST) is one of the prestigious colleges in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), a federal university located in Abia State, Nigeria. Established in 1992, MOUAU is renowned for its strong focus on agricultural education and research, and CAFST plays a vital role in advancing knowledge and innovation in food science and tourism.

CAFST offers several programs, including:

  1. Department of Food Science and Technology (FST): This program covers the scientific principles underlying food processing, preservation, and safety. Students learn about food chemistry, microbiology, and engineering, as well as the latest technologies in food production and processing.
  2. Department of Home Economics (HEC): This program focuses on the economics of the resources available for efficient management of the home.
  3. Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM): This program focuses on the management of hospitality services, including hotels, restaurants, and tourist facilities. Students learn about customer service, marketing, and management principles, as well as the cultural and economic aspects of tourism.
  4. Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HNUD): This program explores the relationship between diet and health, including the prevention and management of diseases through proper nutrition. Students learn about nutrition science, dietetics, and food service management.

To gain admission into the College of Applied Food Science and Tourism, applicants typically require: Five SSC credit passes in subjects like English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Physics, relevant JAMB scores while other specific requirements may vary depending on the program.
