Admission Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

UTME:  Candidates for admission into the five-year degree programme of Hospitality Management and Tourism and Tourism through UTME must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), GCE or NECO or any approved equivalent with at least five (5) credit passes which must include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any of physics, economics and government. The candidate must have a pass in JAMB and Post UTME test that meets the Departmental cut off mark as determined by the University.

Direct Entry: Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess at least an Upper Credit in Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and a combination of “O” Level results as stipulated by the department.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

Master of Science (MSc):  To qualify, candidates must posses/be one of the following

  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Hospitality Management and Tourism, Home Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics with at least Second Class Honours or its equivalent;
  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) with minimum of third class in Hospitality Management and Tourism, Home Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, or other relevant disciplines and at least an Upper Credit at PGD.
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Upper Credit level in relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of MOUAU added to a PGD at Upper Credit level in Hospitality Management and Tourism.
  • Candidates shall in addition posses the O level minimum entry requirement into the B.Sc. programme of HMT.

Doctorate (PhD):

  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Master of Science (M.Sc) in Hospitality Management and Tourism, Home Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, with the minimum CGPA OF 3.5.
  • Candidates shall in addition posses the O-level minimum entry requirement into BSc programme in HMT..

Postgraduate diploma (PGD):

  • To be admitted into the PDG programme, candidates shall posses the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) honours degree at the minimum level of third class in Hospitality Management and Tourism from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike or other recognized Institutions.
  • A good Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) honours degree in Home Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, and other related disciplines as may be acceptable.
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Upper Credit level in relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of MOUAU.
  • Any other qualification(s) that may be recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education/the relevant Government Agencies and the Senate of MOUAU.
  • Candidates shall in addition posses the O level minimum entry requirement into the B.Sc programme of HMT.
