Admission Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

UTME: To be admitted into Home Science programme, a student must possess:

Five credits in SSCE/WAEC/NECO/GCE ‘O’ Level at not more than two sittings in relevant subjects, which will include Chemistry, Maths, Biology/Agricultural Sciences, English language and any of the following physics, clothing and textile, Foods and nutrition, Home management, Economics or any other related subjects. The candidate must have a pass in JAMB and Post UTME test that meets the Departmental cut off mark as determined by the University

Direct Entry:

  • 3-year degree programme (Direct Entry):
  • ND in Home Science, Fashion and Clothing Management, Home and Rural Economics or Hotel and Catering Management with a minimum of lower credit level
  • N.C.E in Home Science with a minimum of credit level.
  • HND in Hotel and Catering Management with a minimum of lower credit.
  • 4 year direct entry program –NCE in Home Science with a minimum of merit in Home Science.

All direct entry candidates must in addition possess the departmental O’ level entry requirements. Programme/sub-discipline/discipline structure to include period of formal studies in the University, industrial training, planned visits and projects.

 

POST GRADUATE STUDIES

Master of Science (MSc):

  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, with at least Second Class Honours or its equaivalent.
  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) with minimum of third class in Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, or other relevant disciplines and at least an Upper Credit at PGD.
  • A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Upper Credit level in relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of MOUAU added to a PGD at Upper Credit level in Home Science.
  • Candidates shall in addition posses the O level minimum entry requirement into the B.Sc programme of Home Science.

 

Doctorate (PhD):

  • Graduates of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved degree of Master of Science (M.Sc) in Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, with the minimum CGPA OF 3.5.
  • Candidates shall in addition posses the O-level minimum entry requirement into BSc programme in Home Science.

 

Post Graduate Diploma

1.To be admitted into the PDG programme, candidates shall posses the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) honours degree at the minimum level of third class in Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike or other recognized Institutions.

2.A good Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) honours degree in Home Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, and other related disciplines as may be acceptable.

3.A Higher National Diploma (HND) at a minimum of Upper Credit level in relevant field of study obtained from any Institution accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and recognized by the Senate of MOUAU.

4.Any other qualification(s) that may be recognized by the Federal Ministry of Education/the relevant Government Agencies and the Senate of MOUAU.

5.Candidates shall in addition posses the O level minimum entry requirement into the B.Sc programme of Home Science.
